July was a bit of a portfolio under-performing month. It did end up with a fraction of gain (less than 0.25%) which really could be lost in background noise, but this should be compared to a gain in the FT All World Index of over 1.5% and gain in the FTSE 100 index of nearly 2.5%. So if my task is to out perform these major indices, then a bit of a disappointment. However these not so good periods have to be taken onboard as part of the ups and downs on investing.
Anyway, better a small gain (however small) than a large loss!
Biggest fallers – my (high risk) Turkey fund and my Robotics fund. These were balanced out by gain in the Fidelity Global Industries and in the UK Special Situations funds.
Nothing is in the danger zone for looking to an immediate sell, so another ‘steady as she goes’ period.
